We organised a webinar on the implementation of Responsible Business Conduct standards in Africa with BUSINESSAfrica on two important topics: the best examples of Responsible Business Conduct legislations that have brought positive changes on the ground in Africa and the key aspects of these pieces of legislation explaining this success; the business case to integrate Responsible Business Conduct standards for companies operating in Africa, with a focus on the key accompanying measures to strengthen the implementability of those standards. We benefitted from the insights of African business organisations, multinational companies and experts from the OECD
The business community called on the OECD to make sure that its work in the Responsible Business Conduct space is implementable and workable for companies, especially for those operating in difficult markets. As expressed by business representatives during the webinar, the key questions of standards’ interoperability and policy coherence should also be elevated as priorities for the upcoming work of the OECD.
This event was an important milestone in our collaboration with BUSINESSAfrica, following the signature of our Memorandum of Understanding last year.
