AI Has Become a Competitiveness Issue for SMEs: OECD Southeast Asia SME Regional Forum

AI is no longer just a technology issue for SMEs. It is a competitiveness issue. That was one of the key messages delivered by our Southeast Asia Contact Group Chair and Iron Duke Partners’ Phil O'Reilly at the OECD Southeast Asia SME Regional Forum in Manila, the Philippines, where he joined governments, private sector representatives, and international organisations. AI is increasingly becoming a competitiveness issue for SMEs. To unlock its benefits, businesses need practical support, relevant skills, trusted guidance, and policies that encourage innovation without creating unnecessary burdens. As economies across Southeast Asia accelerate their digital transition, continued collaboration and dialogue between governments and business will be essential to ensure SMEs can seize the opportunities AI offers.
