Over 30 business representatives from Business at OECD participated in the OECD Global Forum on VAT from 26–28 January. The OECD Global Forum on VAT continues to serve as a unique and inclusive platform for dialogue on the design and operation of Value Added Tax/Goods and Services Tax (VAT/GST) systems worldwide. Discussions focused on VAT/GST policy challenges arising from the digital economy, including e commerce, digital trade, crypto assets, the impact of artificial intelligence and technological innovation, and strategies to combat VAT/GST fraud and improve compliance in digital trade.

Our Executive Director Hanni Rosenbaum delivered opening remarks, reflecting on the 10th anniversary of the OECD International VAT/GST Guidelines. She emphasised the importance of sustained global dialogue and policy co creation to support digital trade facilitation. Business at OECD reaffirmed its commitment to policies that protect government revenues, support cross border trade, and keep compliance burdens manageable for businesses.

Our Tax Committee members led by our business Chair of the VAT/GST Technical advisory Group (TAG) Karl Heinz-Haydl, provided business perspectives through interventions across multiple plenary sessions, contributing to discussions on the practical design and effective implementation of VAT/GST policies.
