Business at OECD organised a webinar on “AI Agents and the World of Work,” which highlighted how these artificial intelligence (AI) systems, characterised by their capacity to pursue goals, make decisions, and take actions with minimal human intervention, are being integrated across workplaces. The webinar engaged both the digital and labour policy communities, offering an opportunity for companies implementing the technology within their businesses to discuss the lessons learned and foster greater understanding among policymakers of the potential impact of AI agents in the workplace.

Representatives from our Business at OECD business network such as, Salesforce, the Adecco Group, and Workday presented concrete examples of how AI agents are being developed and deployed throughout their enterprises. This was followed by an insightful roundtable discussion addressing themes such as worker augmentation through AI, the importance of human-centric approaches during AI agent deployment in companies, and the re- and upskilling of workers through public-private initiatives for effective AI agent adoption.

Technology in general, and AI agents in particular, has the potential to transform business operations, boost productivity, and drive competitive growth when embedded within trustworthy governance frameworks. Business at OECD supports further discussions to be led by the OECD to build upon the OECD AI Principles and explore the potential benefits of AI agents, the barriers to adoption across economies, and the guidance potentially needed to foster trustworthy and human-centric deployment.
