The OECD has launched its 2026 Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Outlook, which examines how governments are adapting STI policies amid rapid technological change, rising geopolitical tensions, and increasing resource constraints. By looking at approaches to improve policy coherence and coordination as well as how countries are balancing openness in cooperation with security concerns, this report offers valuable insights on the challenges and opportunities surrounding STI for both public and private sector actors.
Our Technology and Innovation Committee Chair Dr. Carsten Wehmeyer stated: “The OECD’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Outlook highlights the importance of policy predictability for the continued growth of research and innovation ecosystems, funded largely by the private sector. By providing evidence-based guidance and clear strategic direction, the Outlook can help strengthen policy coherence and coordination across governments and stakeholders. It also offers a useful basis to promote more effective public-private collaboration, ensuring that policies are informed by business realities and innovation dynamics.”
