Christian Kaeser, who co-chairs the tax committee of Business at OECD, a trade association, said he welcomed the G7 statement and especially the removal of the punitive taxes, but added the discussions around the global minimum tax are a result of US “bullying.”

“It’s quite clear that the US is putting their economic interest in the center of their policy and politics,”Kaeser said.

Referring to Europe’s own efforts to boost its industry compared to the US, he said “I can’t see that overhere. I don’t see it in Germany. Not clearly and at all. Not, not slightly even with the European Union, sorryto say that.”

“But what is coming out of the European Union is the global minimum tax directive,” he said, referring to the EU’s legislative and political focus. “I’m not really happy about that.”
